Putting... - Bogey

You’ve flushed a 7 iron, holding your finish, club twirl… the ball lands in the middle of the green and you have a birdie putt. So why when your playing partner asks what you made you say ‘Bogey’. It’s because you never practice putting and 3 whack more than you would ever admit. These are some simple tips to use which can help become a Tiger like putter:

Eyes down – the ball isn’t going to go in any quicker by looking up to see if it has gone in yet. If you are looking up to quickly, chances are you’re going to push putts because you’re not completing the stroke. Practice keeping your eyes down after you have hit the putt, and listen to it drop in the bottom of the cup.

Decelerating – a lot of poor putters get scared when they are on the greens and because of this don’t keep the putter moving through the ball. This is going to lead to weak putts that even your Mrs would be disappointed with. Have a go at taking a shorter backstroke and accelerating through the putt.

Ball strike – we always bang on about striking the ball pure when we have an iron or driver in hand, but hitting the putter out of the middle of the face is just as important to becoming a consistent putter. Practice putting 2 tees either side of the putter, and as you putt the ball the club head should not hit either tee, this means you are striking it out the middle.

Give these tips a try and you’ll cut out those annoying 3 putts which will help you to break 100, 90, or 80 much quicker.
