The UK has a lot of great things going for it, the weather is not one of them. Despite this, we still drag ourselves out onto the course when there is a hurricane and wind is something that a lot of us struggle to play in. You need to have a lower shot in the bag to be able to still put something together in the wind. Try these tips to hit those Tiger stingers:
Back in the stance – if you wanna keep it low, you need to de loft the club and a simple way of doing this is to move the ball further back in your stance to help close down the face at impact. You can do this with any club that you’re using.
When its breezy, swing easy – a common mistake from most people when hitting into the wind, is thinking that you need to swing harder to try and power it through the wind. Problem is the harder you swing the more spin you create on the ball which is going to send it higher into the air. Best thing to do is club up more, and swing smoother to take spin off.
Saw it off – sometimes amateurs can overcomplicate these types of shots, but if you listen to some of the best players, they use the simplest of ‘feels’ when trying to work the ball. In this case you want to hit it low, so you follow through should finish low. This may sound overly simple, but just by sawing off your through swing will help you to keep the flight down.
Next time you’re out there on an extra windy day give these a go and you’ll be feeling like you can attack even the toughest of links courses by the end.
