Hit High Draws

Hit High Draws

A shot that every amateur dreams of having in the locker… stepping onto that dog-leg left par 5, and smashing a high draw over the trees so you can get to the green in two. So how come the most common shot amongst Ams is a high slice? Well, try these tips next time you’re practicing, and you’ll hit bombs like Rory in no time:

Aim right – sounds strange, but if you want the ball to go to work right to left, that’s where you need it to start. Put a club on the ground to aim your feet right of target, then set the club face so that it is aiming AT the target. Then swing along the path of your feet.

Release your hands – for the ball to draw, it needs to have right to left spin on it. By releasing your hands through impact, this will help to generate that spin by closing down the club face.

Rotate hard – when you watch Rory, you will notice how hard he rotates his hips and shoulders through impact. Now, I’m not saying you will be able to rotate like he does, but try to get the feeling of really rotating your body through impact, this will increase speed and help the ball to draw.

Give these tips a go next time you are out!
