You're stood on the tee of a par 5, water all down the right... naturally you aim further left. So why is it when you look up, you see the ball slicing hard right heading straight into the drink? Well you are not alone. This has to be one of the most common faults from amateur golfers, and we're here to give some tips on how to stop the slice:
Aim right - yes, you read that correctly. It's a good idea to practice this at the range first, but if you want the ball to start right and finish left, you need to be set up correctly. Put a club down and aim your feet right of target, then point the club face directly at target and feel like you are swinging along the line of your feet.
Ball inside left heel - this again is a simple set up change but can make the world of difference. With a driver the ball needs to be in line with your left heel. This will help you to hit more 'up' on the ball, rather than a downward strike which generates too much spin for a driver.
Release your hands - if the ball is spinning off to the right, it means at impact the clubface is wide open. A simple 'feel' is to let your hands 'flip' through impact to square the face up. You can over exaggerate this in practice, because when it comes to reality it won't actually be flipping as badly as you think.
Give these a go next time you are out practicing!
